Everything is bigger in Texas, including the number of people relocating to our amazing state! The Texas Association of Realtors released a new report that ranked Texas second in the nation for relocation in 2015. The report analyzes county relocation data for the 43 largest demographic areas in Texas. According to the report, Texas saw a net gain of 107,689 out-of-state residents in 2015, which is a 4 percent increase from 2014, with a gain of 103,465 residents. The total number of residents moving to Texas from out of state in 2015 increased 2.8 percent year-over-year, with the highest number of residents coming from California, Florida, Louisiana, New York and Oklahoma. In addition to ranking for residents moving in to the state, Texas also ranked third for the number of residents moving out of the state in 2015, with 445,343 residents leaving our great state. California, Florida, Oklahoma, Colorado and Louisiana were the most popular destinations for our out-of-state residents. Not only did this report show the movement from state-to-state, but also which cities and counties recorded the highest number of resident migrations to Texas. Dallas-Fort Worth recorded the highest number at 117,982, followed by Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land at 101,604 and Austin-Round Rock at 46,598. The county movement shows Harris County leading with a net gain of 18,645 residents relocating from out-of-state, followed by Dallas, Tarrant, Collin and Denton counties. Houston and Dallas were responsible for the largest number of Texas residents moving to and from Austin and Los Angeles and New York experienced the largest number of Texas residents moving out-of-state. The top five Texas metros moving to Austin are Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio, Killeen, and College Station The top five out-of-state metros moving to Austin are Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Washington, Phoenix.
